Thursday, July 2, 2009 - Volunteering

 Volunteering ; Thursday, July 2, 2009

Behari is safe for now, but two problems arise on the side of the living. One seems to have a solution.

---

BONUS UPDATE!

The tip jar resets to $5 (the leftover from the donation that made the $50 :) ) and working on next week's update :)

This was a relatively simple page to do; but the simple pages give me a chance to actually practice my anatomy and perspective, since action scenes and stuff like that are easy to gimmick... it's when people are just standing around that one has a chance to do a reality check on the style. I'm getting better at hands! :)

Meanwhile, the story contest continues! If you haven't voted for my story yet, you still can! :3

Reminders! You can read the translated story here, and you can vote in the contest here, remember that my story's title in Spanish is "CUENTA LA LEYENDA".

The fields in the voting form mean: Nombre (Name), mail (...duh... :) ), Relato (Story... this is where you pick meeeeee :) ), and Mensaje (Message). EDIT: And Enviar (Send!) ^^

Thanks for your support! :D

 A Good Neighbor ; Monday, June 29, 2009

The Death Guide and the new arrival change words, and it is clear who is the most powerful, even if they both seem to have good intentions.

---

This week is double-update week! The next page is almost ready for upload this thursday.

Meanwhile, the voting for the story contest should be live this Monday, although right now (Sunday night) I'm not sure whether the voting will actually be open to the public or, like during the last phase, only to participants. Still, I'll keep people posted, and if you were willing to vote for my story and couldn't, thanks anyway!

VOTING IS LIVE!

It's based on an e-mail gateway thing, but you don't have to send an actual message (or you can, if you trust your Spanish skills :) )

The voting page is HERE

My story's title in Spanish is "CUENTA LA LEYENDA"

The fields mean: Nombre (Name), mail (...duh... :) ), Relato (Story... this is where you pick meeeeee :) ), and Mensaje (Message).

Tell your friends! Tell the world! :D

Monday, June 22, 2009 - First-Person Narration

http://nahast.spiderforest.com/archive.php?comic_id=255
First-person Narration ; Monday, June 22, 2009

The strange spirit has a name: Death Guide, and the owner of the disembodied voice in narration makes him... her...self known, and seems eager to help.

---

I've been cooking up this character's appearance for a while. If you've taken a peek at my Commissions page, you will recognize her from one of the examples of full-color characters. I'd like to yak about her but the next update contains most of the important answers :)

Also! I'm writing this on Saturday! :) Indeed, this page has been ready for a few days now, and I'm starting on the next pages already. This time shift affects the following:

As on today (Monday 22nd), voting for the science fiction & fantasy contest I'm competing in should be live. I need your vote!. Of the 21 finalists, only 10 will win a spot in the publisher's upcoming anthology book, so we have to outvote at least 11 other people. Yes, there is no jury to pick the stories, they are trusting in general public voting. If the voting page is up and I haven't been able to update this notice, my story is called "Cuenta la leyenda". You can read it's translation, "Legend tells", in my LiveJournal.

So, please! Vote! A happy, fed writer is a productive writer/artist! ;)

Antidote, too late. ; Thursday, June 18, 2009

Magic is not the only way to save Behari, but she has already accepted the protection of the strange death-like spirit, and the sands of time just started running.

---

I'm starting to get another round of headway. Next week's page is already halfways done, so I expect to update again on Monday or Tuesday, and I'll try to get even more pages done.

Also! As I stated on the shoutbox, I used the time I gained last two updates to finish my entry into the second round in the short story contest I've been mentioning in my LiveJournal. Come Monday, I'm going to ask for your further patronage and ask you to vote for my story, since the voting for this round is open to the public. The contest is local, so the original is in Spanish; however, I translated it here so you know what you might be voting for. :)

http://nahast.spiderforest.com/archive.php?comic_id=253
Poison ; Monday, June 8, 2009

There are poisons for every purpose, and Xu're explains that Behari might be suffering from one of her own making.

---

It's been a while since I updated on Mondays as was usual, and I hope to keep it up. Also, it's the first update I upload hours before it actually comes up :)

I'm going to use this little headway to write the story I have to submit for the short story contest, and also to work on some extra art I have due in my sketchbook.

Thursday, June 4, 2009 - Into the Region of the Dead

Into the Region of the Dead ; Thursday, June 4, 2009

Behari has started a journey, one that most people only start once.

---

Nothing much to say for this update... except that I hope it's as creepy as I intended it to be. Exposition will be forthcoming about the Region of the Dead, courtesy of both Xu're and our not-so-mysterious narrator.

Friday, May 29, 2009 - The Death Guide

http://nahast.spiderforest.com/archive.php?comic_id=251
The Death Guide ; Friday, May 29, 2009

A peek inside Behari's feverish nightmare, one that might have much more serious implications.

---

I'm trying a new way to do the comic for these dark scenes, and that is to use the brush and very watered-down ink, and on the coloring side I'm just spattering and using a textured brush tool. The real characters will still be inked and colored the usual way, for contrast.

So... Yes... there's going to be more of these pages, and they'll be illustrating one of the underlying parts of Nahast's cosmology, and they will reveal some secrets about at least one of the characters AND a couple of plots. Those who've read Deeta's Lament might have a clue on one of them ;)

Wednesday, May 27, 2009 - It's Not the Magic

http://nahast.spiderforest.com/archive.php?comic_id=250
It's Not the Magic ; Wednesday, May 27, 2009

Xu're is trying to heal Behari, but she's resisting. Derrexi realizes the tragedy behind it.

---

This page will more or less color what this chapter will be about. It's going to be harsh for some of the characters, and it's going to be a little dark.

On other news, as I mentioned in the shoutbox, I'm a finalist in the fantastic genre story contest a local publisher is organizing. The first phase was a ministory, voted for amongst the participants. The second, which started this week, requires me to write a longer story, and this one will be voted for by the general public... which is where I'll be asking your support, since I don't have a legion of Facebook/MySpace friends to call upon :)

In any case, if you want to read the ministory that earned me the pass into the second phase, you can read it here. I translated it into English in a bit of a hurry :)
